Saving money in the kitchen often involves trying to keep food edible for as long as possible. Fruits and veggies can last for a couple weeks, but what about leftovers and other more perishable items. Chances are you've tried conventional things like baggies and plastic wrap, but these methods leave an unmanageable stack of goods in your fridge. Maybe you have branched out to using those vacuum packers that seal food with an airtight seal. Those machines can be a hassle to operate and need hard to find replacement bags. There is a way to store your food in a sealed environment while being able to organize it properly. They're called Pyrex glass food containers. Unlike plastic containers which can discolor and warp, glass is a timeless material that is completely dishwasher safe and airtight.

Pyrex food containers often come in a set in various sizes. Different sizes accommodate different types of foods. For example, a half eaten sandwich from lunch would be stored well in a small container. Last night's spaghetti goulash, however, will need a larger container. Having various container sizes maximizes the efficiency of storage because you can use only the amount you need. This allows for more storage in your refrigerator. If your fridge is more organized, it reduces the chances of food getting lost in its depths. How many times have you cleaned out your fridge to find perfectly good food wasted because it got lost in the back? Pyrex containers keep it all organized because they can be stacked. Also, the clear glass allows you to easily see the contents inside.

The glass bottoms will not stain or warp, and can be used in the dishwasher. Seal tight lids keep food inside even when turned upside down. You can also wash the lids in the dishwasher if you use the top rack. Feel free to re-heat your stored meal in the microwave, as the dishware is completely microwave safe. If you have cold items like ice cream, you can even put the containers directly into the freezer for convenient storage. The high temperature glass used in Pyrex construction doesn't leach plasticizers into your food like plastic does. With regular use, Pyrex storage containers will last a lifetime or more. While plastic may be cheaper, you will save a lot of money going with glass because you won't have to buy replacements due to warping or melting.
